Crimson Desert: Reviewer Spends 205 Hours, Only Halfway Through Massive Open World Game

Crimson Desert appears to be radically redefining the very concept of an “enormous open world” in video games. One particular reviewer, Blaine Smith, has reportedly dedicated a staggering 205 hours to the title and yet feels he has completed only approximately half of its vast content.

His in-game map vividly illustrates this point: even after more than eight days of continuous gameplay, immense regions (often highlighted in red) remain entirely uncharted and unexplored.

Current estimates suggest that a full, comprehensive playthrough of Crimson Desert could demand anywhere from 300 to 400 hours. For many players, this level of commitment feels less like casual entertainment and more akin to a full-time job. Areas where over 90% of activities have been completed constitute only a minor fraction of the overall map, with the remainder still filled with “unfinished” quests and undiscovered zones.

The gaming community has reacted with a compelling blend of admiration and apprehension, with a common sentiment being, “205 hours and only half the game? That’s insane.” Such an unprecedented scale has led many to speculate that Pearl Abyss might indeed have crafted the largest digital world ever seen in gaming history.

However, this sheer magnitude inevitably sparks discussions about content quality and potential padding. A segment of the community is already expressing warnings about a potential “nightmare of repetition,” fearing that many side activities might prove mundane and could ultimately deter players from fully engaging with the optional storylines and extensive exploration opportunities.
