At the Game Developers Conference (GDC), Valve not only presented up-to-date statistics on the state of Steam for 2025 but also humorously touched upon the ongoing issue of hardware component shortages, particularly regarding RAM. Company representatives even made a semi-serious appeal to the industry for assistance with RAM supplies for future hardware development.
In 2025, an impressive 5,863 games on Steam generated over $100,000 each, indicating substantial growth and dispelling concerns about platform oversaturation. This demonstrates that developers can still achieve significant success within Valve’s storefront.
Furthermore, the daily deals program saw remarkable growth:
- 1,500 games participated in the promotion.
- 69% of these games had never been featured in such sales before.
- 8.2 million Steam users purchased games through these offers.
This represents approximately a 125% increase compared to the previous year.
However, the most talked-about segment of the presentation revolved around hardware. Amid global price hikes and component scarcity, Valve acknowledged the challenges in preparing new equipment. In a playful manner, it was stated that there would be no new hardware announcements at GDC 2026 “unless someone brings them some RAM.” Speakers even addressed the audience with a semi-ironic request:
“If you have access to a large batch of RAM, we are on the market and ready to buy it.”
