The highly anticipated big-screen adaptation of the iconic beat ’em up game, Streets of Rage, appears to be caught in production limbo.

Derek Kolstad, the acclaimed screenwriter behind the “John Wick” series, revealed that while Lionsgate formally continues to develop the film, actual progress has stalled. He described the project’s current state as “actively inactive,” signifying a lack of significant movement despite its official development status.

Despite the hurdles, Kolstad maintains his belief in the project. He emphasized the considerable time he invested in the script, deeming it a robust foundation for the future film. His vision for the adaptation centers on relentless action, drawing inspiration from films like “16 Blocks” and “The Raid,” with a narrative designed to unfold almost without pause.

Kolstad completed the screenplay long before Lionsgate became involved in 2022. However, the absence of substantial updates since then has raised concerns about whether the Streets of Rage movie will ever make it to the big screen.
