Previously, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang fiercely defended the company’s DLSS technology against critics, consistently attempting to refute their claims.
However, blogger Daniel Owen recently had the opportunity to question Nvidia evangelist Jacob Freeman about DLSS 5, leading to a clearer understanding of how the technology truly functions.
Contrary to Jensen Huang’s previous assertions that DLSS 5 would analyze and “understand” scene composition to generate geometry rather than merely post-processing frames, the Nvidia CEO’s statements have now been revealed to be far from accurate.
It was confirmed that DLSS 5 operates exclusively with already rendered 2D frames and motion vectors. Its purpose is for subsequent generation and to maintain image stability. The technology lacks access to 3D geometry or scene depth, receiving visual data only from the final 2D image output by the game engine.
