Xbox is gearing up for a major surprise as part of its 25th-anniversary celebrations, promising much more than simple nostalgic retrospectives, with new content expected later this year.
At GDC, Jason Ronald, Xbox’s Vice President of Next-Generation Technology, strongly hinted at the return of beloved classic games for fans.
“As part of our 25th-anniversary celebration later this year, [the game preservation team] will release several iconic games from the past that can now be played in new ways.”

The initiative is reportedly being handled by the team dedicated to game preservation and backward compatibility. While Microsoft hasn’t clarified if these will be new additions to the backward compatibility library or enhanced versions of existing titles, it’s evident that retro gaming will be a central theme of the upcoming celebration.
