Strauss Zelnick, the CEO of Take-Two Interactive, dismisses the notion that artificial intelligence tools, such as Google’s Project Genie, will enable the creation of games on par with titles like Grand Theft Auto VI. He firmly believes that such technologies will not empower small independent studios to compete effectively with established major companies in the gaming industry.
In an interview with The Game Business, Zelnick stated that while game creation tools have been available for a long time, leading to thousands of projects released annually, genuine blockbuster hits almost invariably originate from large development companies. Indie studios, he noted, produce such hits only on rare occasions.
The idea that you can press a button and get a hit that will attract millions of players worldwide is simply ludicrous. This has never been the case in the entertainment industry.
As an illustration, Zelnick referred to AI music services capable of generating compositions on demand. While these might sound professionally produced, he commented that it’s “unlikely you’d want to listen to them more than once.”
