Pro Gamer Impersonation Leads to Six-Month Sentence for Esports Fraud

A woman’s esports achievements were revealed to be fraudulent, leading to a court conviction for deception during a tournament.

During last year’s Arena of Valor tournament, organizers observed inconsistencies between the on-screen actions attributed to Varasin ‘Tokyogurl’ Naraphat and her physical movements. It was discovered that she was not playing herself; her boyfriend, Cheerio, was remotely controlling the game for her.

The case proceeded to court, where Varasin ‘Tokyogurl’ Naraphat and Cheerio were found guilty of violating Thailand’s computer crime laws.

The couple was initially sentenced to six months imprisonment. However, the judge halved the sentence to three months and allowed them to serve it outside of prison, contingent on their admission of guilt. The specific location and conditions for their sentence will be determined at a later date.
