Payday 3 has received its March Update 3.3, introducing significant changes aimed at enhancing gameplay and inclusivity. Among the most notable updates is the gradual implementation of peer-to-peer (P2P) connections, marking a strategic shift away from dedicated servers.

Transitioning to Peer-to-Peer Connections

While P2P functionality has been added to the game, it will not be immediately fully active. The developers plan extensive additional testing before completely phasing out the dedicated server system. This measured approach ensures a smooth and stable transition for players, minimizing potential disruptions and improving connection reliability in the long run.

Key Gameplay Enhancements and Fixes

The update also brings a host of other improvements and content changes across various aspects of the game:

  • Refined Hacking Mechanics: Adjustments have been made to the hacking system on higher difficulties. This change aims to discourage “button mashing” and encourage more strategic and thoughtful engagement with the mechanic, demanding more skill from players.
  • Bug Fixes & Animation Updates: Bugs related to a specific mask have been resolved, and the first-person sliding animation has been updated for improved fluidity and visual appeal, enhancing the overall player experience.
  • Joining Invulnerability: Players who connect to an ongoing session will now benefit from a 6-second invulnerability period upon joining. This provides a crucial window to orient themselves, understand the situation, and avoid immediate threats upon entering a chaotic scenario.
  • Enhanced Visual Effects: The smoke and fog effects generated by gas grenades have been revamped, promising a more realistic and impactful visual experience during combat, contributing to better environmental immersion.
  • Weapon Returns: The original versions of the BISON and RG5 weapons have been reinstated. This is a welcome return for many veteran players who preferred their previous characteristics or simply enjoy weapon variety.

A Step Towards Greater Inclusivity in Security

A unique and specific change introduced in this update focuses on diversifying the game’s security personnel. This move reflects a broader industry trend towards more representative character designs and adds a layer of realism and variety to the game world.

Private security companies have revised their physical fitness requirements to make them more inclusive. Now, guards with a more diverse range of body types can be encountered on duty.

This change aims to introduce a broader representation within the game’s world, ensuring that the characters encountered are more reflective of real-world diversity. It adds another subtle but significant layer to Payday 3’s evolving identity, emphasizing accessibility and representation alongside core gameplay improvements.
