The ‘Handheld Mode Boost’ feature is now available on the Nintendo Switch 2, and initial tests of this new functionality have started to appear online. This feature aims to bring the quality of games in handheld mode closer to what players experience when the console is connected to a TV, offering improved performance and sharper visuals.
Nintendo has cautioned about certain trade-offs: activating the boost increases power consumption, which reduces battery life. Furthermore, the effect varies significantly by game, meaning not all titles will show a noticeable improvement.

Extensive testing involved dozens of titles, including popular games like Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Astral Chain, NieR Automata, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, Bayonetta 3, and DOOM Eternal. In many instances, a clear enhancement was observed: visuals became clearer, several graphical artifacts disappeared, and overall stability improved.
Players have reacted positively to this new addition, commending Nintendo for significantly enhancing the experience of older games on the new console.
