Developers of Ori and Palworld Defend Crimson Desert After Mixed Reviews

The highly anticipated launch of Crimson Desert has been met with a varied response. While many players eagerly awaited its release, initial critical reviews have led to disappointment among some members of the community, causing them to prematurely write off the project.

Thomas Mahler, the acclaimed creator known for Ori and the Blind Forest and No Rest for the Wicked, addressed this sentiment on social media. He argued that modern games are inherently complex, making it exceedingly challenging to perfect every single aspect from day one. Mahler suggested that patience is often the best approach, especially for “hot” releases that frequently require several post-launch patches to reach their full potential.

“Modern games have become so complex that it is extremely difficult to make everything perfect, because you have to bring hundreds of components together. Therefore, it is often wiser to just wait a bit — especially if the release was ‘hot’ and requires several patches.”

This perspective was echoed by “Bucky,” a representative from the Palworld development team. He emphasized the subjective nature of gaming experiences, remarking that “What’s a 77 for one person, might be a 100 for another,” highlighting that review scores don’t always capture the full individual appeal of a game.
