Classic Atari Games Now Available for In-Car Play via AirConsole

Decades ago, Atari games revolutionized entertainment by transitioning from arcades to home consoles. Now, a select collection of these modernized Atari classics are making their way to AirConsole, a gaming and entertainment platform exclusively designed for in-car use.

AirConsole and Atari have jointly announced that “Asteroids Recharged” and “Breakout Charged” are now available for the in-vehicle entertainment system, currently supported in specific Volkswagen models. To access these games, drivers must have an active VW Connect Plus contract and a smartphone with an internet connection. It`s crucial to note that gaming is only possible when the car is parked. Players can simply scan a QR code displayed on the car`s screen, instantly turning their smartphones into game controllers for AirConsole titles.

Ethan Stearns, Atari`s Vice President of Games, stated, “The AirConsole team has an outstanding history of refining in-car controls and delivering exceptional gaming experiences within vehicles. We are thrilled for Volkswagen drivers and their passengers to explore these contemporary renditions of our timeless classics.”

Atari intends to eventually expand its AirConsole game offering with “Missile Command: Recharged,” though no other specific titles have been announced yet. While AirConsole is also collaborating with car manufacturers Audi and BMW, the Atari games are currently exclusive to Volkswagen vehicles.
