Marvel Studios has officially postponed the release of “Black Panther 3” by several months. Originally anticipated for a February 2028 debut, insider reports now indicate the film will arrive during the summer, specifically targeting July 28 of the same year.
This scheduling adjustment means that “Black Panther 3” will no longer serve as the inaugural film of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s seventh phase, as was initially expected, particularly since its original date was just three months after “Avengers: Secret Wars.” Instead, an as-yet-unannounced film slated for May 5, 2028, will now kick off the new phase. Another Marvel project is also set for release after “Black Panther 3” on December 15, 2028.
Sources suggest the delay is not a result of a broader strategic shift within Marvel but rather due to the demanding schedule of director Ryan Coogler. Coogler is currently engaged in the “X-Files” reboot for Hulu, with its production scheduled for May and June of 2026. Furthermore, the involvement of several “Black Panther 3” cast members in “Avengers: Secret Wars” also contributes to the extended production timeline.
Anticipation is high that “Avengers: Secret Wars” will introduce a new incarnation of the Black Panther character. Rumors are circulating that this could be an adult version of T’Challa’s son. Among the names being considered for the role is Damson Idris, though no official confirmations have been made. The potential participation of Denzel Washington is also a topic of discussion, which could mark his significant debut in the MCU.
