Before Arc Raiders evolved into its current form as an extraction shooter, the game was conceived with a remarkably different, and by many accounts, more “heroic” gameplay style. Early development plans for the title incorporated dynamic movement mechanics like jump pads and a highly agile Snap Hook, enabling players to traverse environments with an agility often compared to Spider-Man.
This initial iteration promised a distinct sense of adventure and player empowerment. Visual evidence of this early concept can be seen in a screenshot from the original reveal trailer, which famously depicted a character airborne after utilizing a jump pad, a grenade clutched in their hand, perfectly encapsulating the game’s then-intended fast-paced and action-oriented design.
The subsequent strategic shift towards an extraction shooter model marked a significant departure from these foundational “heroic” elements, reshaping the core gameplay and overall player experience of Arc Raiders.
