NIS America has announced the release of the RPG Ys X: Proud Nordics for Switch 2 and PC in the US in early next year. This edition is positioned as the definitive version of the game, offering a new storyline, enhanced mechanics, and an additional dungeon.
Ys X: Proud Nordics already debuted on Switch 2 in Japan last month. The original Ys X: Nordics was released in Japan in 2023, and then brought to the West by NIS America in 2024 for PC, PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch platforms. Currently, information regarding a possible upgrade path for Ys X: Proud Nordics on Switch 2 or PC is unavailable. It is worth noting that for Nintendo`s new Switch 2 system, both paid upgrades and free patches have been offered since its June release.
As before, in Ys X, players follow Adol Christin, the series` consistent protagonist, who this time is joined by the sailor Karja. Together, they must confront “the looming threat of an undying horde known as the Griegr,” as stated in the press release. “Aboard their ship, the Sandras, Adol and Karja gather a trusty crew of friends and allies to embark on an unforgettable journey against the Griegr!”
Notably, the events of Ys X take place after Ys II and, for the first time in the franchise`s history, include naval combat. No prior knowledge of previous installments is required to understand the story of Ys X, as it is a standalone narrative. In addition to Switch 2, Ys X: Proud Nordics will be available on PC via Steam, Epic Games Store, and GOG.
