Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana has a notable history. It began as Ys III: Wanderers from Ys in 1989. It was later remade as Ys: The Oath in Felghana for the PSP in 2005, then ported to PC in 2012. The D1 Refined Edition for Nintendo Switch and PS5 is a remaster of that PC port, bringing it to modern consoles with further enhancements.
The original PSP remake significantly overhauled Ys III. This new edition adds quality-of-life improvements such as Turbo mode, optional updated character illustrations throughout the game, and voice acting for the protagonist Adol Christin. It also features three different versions of the original soundtrack, all presented in high-quality audio.
The story of Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana follows the adventurer Adol and his companion Dogi as they return to Dogi`s homeland, Felghana, after an eight-year journey. They discover the land is now overrun with dangerous monsters and ruled by a cruel overlord, causing suffering among the residents. While Dogi seeks help from his former master, Adol stays to assist the locals and soon becomes embroiled in new conspiracies and the legacy of ancient times.
Note that the PS5 edition of the D1 Refined Edition previously sold out at Amazon and Walmart and may not be restocked. Best Buy currently lists the PS5 version at its standard $50 MSRP.
