When Replaced was first announced at E3 2021, it garnered significant attention. With its striking cyberpunk aesthetic and theatrical combat, the game aimed to introduce dynamic action elements into the burgeoning genre of cinematic platformers. Now, more than four years following its initial reveal, Replaced has finally received a release window, and notably, it will be available on Xbox Game Pass from day one.
In a newly released trailer, developers at Sad Cat Studios confirmed that the game is slated for launch in Spring 2026. The video highlights the considerable progress achieved over these years, showcasing enhancements to environments, animations, and other intricate details.
In a post on Steam, game director Yura Zhdanovich acknowledged the extended wait and indicated that the game’s production is nearing completion. While a specific release date remains unannounced, this update brings players much closer to the final launch. Additionally, at the conclusion of the video, Sad Cat Studios revealed that the final game trailer will be released later this year, which may potentially provide further details.
While game development inherently presents challenges, Sad Cat faced particularly unique external circumstances that impacted their production timeline. Originally based in Belarus, the studio’s work was disrupted following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Opposing the war and the Belarusian government’s support for Russia, and out of concern for the team’s safety under the Belarusian regime, the studio made the decision to relocate to Cyprus in 2022.
The game will be available on Xbox Series X|S and PC. Although the price for Replaced has not yet been disclosed, its inclusion with Xbox Game Pass subscriptions on launch day is a significant benefit for subscribers.
