Microsoft`s recent fiscal report, released following company-wide layoffs earlier this month, highlighted a significant success: Xbox Game Pass generated nearly $5 billion in annual revenue for the first time.
While the complete investor transcript is available online, it does not provide specific details regarding this Game Pass milestone, such as subscriber numbers or the exact revenue figure achieved. It is worth noting that last year, Microsoft implemented price increases for Game Pass and introduced Xbox Game Pass Standard, which notably excludes day-one access to the company`s major game releases—a benefit exclusively reserved for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate subscribers.
Microsoft also announced its position as the leading publisher on both Xbox and PlayStation during the second quarter of 2025 in the US. This achievement was largely attributed to the successful cross-platform launches of titles like Forza Horizon 5 and Oblivion Remastered. Furthermore, other Microsoft-owned games, including Doom: The Dark Ages, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, and Minecraft, were among the best-sellers on PlayStation`s Q2 sales charts.
The report further disclosed that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 has already attracted an impressive 50 million players. Additionally, the recent Minecraft movie contributed to record active usage and revenue for the immensely popular Minecraft game.
Interestingly, the report largely steered clear of extensive discussions regarding the recent layoffs or the cancellation of various gaming projects, such as Rare`s Everwild. However, it did confirm that Microsoft currently has “nearly 40 games in development.”
