Microsoft has recently broadened its “Stream your own game” initiative, enabling Xbox Insiders to stream their console games directly onto their PCs.
While streaming titles from the Xbox Game Pass library has been an existing feature, this expanded capability now allows users to stream other games they own on their Xbox console. This marks the latest phase in the feature`s rollout, following its introduction to supported TVs and web browsers last November, and to Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One consoles in April. Now, PC users can join in this enhanced streaming experience.
The “Stream your own game” feature is accessible to Xbox Insiders who also subscribe to Game Pass Ultimate. It can be found within the Xbox PC app and is available in all 28 regions where Xbox Cloud Gaming is supported. No game installation is necessary; users simply open the app and can instantly begin streaming any of the over 250 compatible titles.
This update means that a range of games previously inaccessible via the Xbox PC app can now be played. However, it`s worth noting that the current list of supported games does not include older titles originally released on the original Xbox or Xbox 360 consoles, though the selection continues to expand.
This streaming expansion is part of a series of recent improvements to the Xbox PC app, which also include a new Game Bar Compact Mode, a streamlined home user interface, updated Game Bar and widgets, and the addition of Microsoft Edge Game Assist.
These developments align with Microsoft`s broader Xbox Play Anywhere program, which allows players to purchase a title once and enjoy it across multiple devices. This includes upcoming devices like the Xbox ROG Ally Windows handhelds, set to launch this holiday season, which will not only run Xbox PC games natively but also titles from other PC gaming platforms such as Steam.
