A significant update for World of Warcraft is set to launch on August 5th, bringing with it highly anticipated quality-of-life improvements: a complete rework of the banking system and substantial changes to how Valorstones function.
As part of update 11.2, titled “Ghosts of K`aresh,” WoW`s bank will undergo a major transformation. Moving away from the long-standing system of purchasing individual bag slots—a method used for over two decades—players will now be able to acquire dedicated storage tabs, much like those found in Blizzard`s Diablo series.
With this update, the Reagent Bank and Void Storage—two previously more restrictive storage options—will be removed. While initial concerns arose about potential loss of storage space, the new banking system is designed to offer enhanced capabilities.
The new storage tabs will be more affordable than the old bag slots, and players will gain an additional 50 slots without the prior restrictions associated with Void Storage or the Reagent Bank. Any tab can now serve as a reagent tab without being exclusively limited to reagents. The system will be far more intuitive, as all banking operations will be unified within a single interface. Interestingly, this marks the first major change to the game`s banking system since the introduction of Void Storage in the 2011 Cataclysm expansion.
Beyond the bank overhaul, Blizzard has also announced another crucial change: Valorstones, the primary currency used for upgrading gear, will no longer reset between seasons.
This represents a massive shift, as players previously had to re-farm Valorstones at the start of each new season to improve their equipment. Now, players can accumulate them in advance without fear of them being wiped, allowing for better preparation for future updates.
However, the maximum capacity for Valorstones remains capped at 2,000, which sets a limit on how much can be stockpiled. While this might change in the future, Blizzard has at least transitioned them into a non-seasonal currency.
The “Ghosts of K`aresh” update will transport players to the shattered homeworld of the Ethereals to confront the Void Lord Dimensius. In addition to new content and the quality-of-life features mentioned, the update will also introduce a long-requested emote. Meanwhile, Blizzard continues to share details about WoW`s upcoming housing system and is preparing for the full reveal of its next expansion, “Midnight,” at Gamescom in August.
