During Gamescom Opening Night Live, Wargaming unveiled World of Tanks: Heat, a fresh 10v10 hybrid title combining elements of a hero shooter with tank combat. This new game aims to blend the strategic depth of World of Tanks with the character-driven dynamics of hero shooters like Overwatch.
Players will select from a diverse roster of tanks and “agents”—Heat`s unique take on heroes—to engage in classic multiplayer modes. Confirmed formats include familiar objectives such as Kill Confirmed, Domination, and Conquest. A key feature highlighted by the official announcement is the extensive tank customization, which allows players to equip “advanced weapon systems, armor modules, visual modifications, and battlefield-altering abilities.”
This iteration of World of Tanks marks a significant first for Wargaming, as it is designed for a concurrent launch across multiple platforms. This multi-platform release will include comprehensive cross-play and cross-progression support. This means players can seamlessly join matches and continue their progress whether they are on a console or a PC, all under a single account.
Wargaming has also characterized World of Tanks: Heat as “free-to-win.” This philosophy ensures that while in-game purchases will be available, they are not necessary for players to compete effectively. The developers specify that the game`s monetization model will primarily focus on cosmetic enhancements, battle passes, and optional “time-savers” for progression.
World of Tanks: Heat is slated for release on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC. As of this writing, a specific launch date or window has yet to be officially announced.
