In 2014, Machine Games successfully rebooted id Software`s iconic Wolfenstein shooter series with The New Order. This was followed by Wolfenstein: The New Colossus in 2017 and the spin-off Wolfenstein: Youngblood in 2019. No new installments in the franchise have appeared since the VR title Wolfenstein: Cyberpilot in 2019. Nevertheless, Machine Games` creative director, Axel Torvenius, still expresses a strong desire to conclude the story of William `B.J.` Blazkowicz in a third main Wolfenstein game.
`We have always envisioned this as a [Wolfenstein] trilogy,` Torvenius remarked during a Noclip documentary dedicated to Wolfenstein. `B.J.`s journey, even during the initial weeks of developing New Order at id, was meticulously planned out – what would transpire in the second part, and what would happen in the third. I believe it`s crucial to state this because – I, at least, hope – we are not yet finished with Wolfenstein. We still have a compelling story to unfold.`
While there is currently no official news regarding a third Wolfenstein game, reports indicate that Amazon is developing a Wolfenstein TV series for Prime Video. Kilter Films, known for their work on Prime Video`s Fallout series, are producing the show in collaboration with Machine Games. Specific plot details remain undisclosed, but it is widely believed to draw from the storyline of the game series reboot.
Machine Games is now part of Microsoft, following the ZeniMax acquisition. The studio`s most recent major release was Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, which continues the anti-Nazi combat tradition inherent in Wolfenstein. The first downloadable content expansion for this game, Indiana Jones And The Order Of Giants, launched earlier this month. Furthermore, Machine Games and Bethesda plan to release Indiana Jones and the Great Circle on the Switch 2 in 2026.
