When DIY Goes Wrong: A Donkey Kong Bananza Cartridge Saga

DIY projects are often enjoyable and yield unique results or amusing anecdotes. However, this story highlights a Donkey Kong Bananza customization attempt that went spectacularly wrong, providing an entertaining, albeit unfortunate, spectacle.

A TikTok user named Gardner recently decided to paint their Donkey Kong Bananza cartridge for the Switch 2 a bright yellow. This choice was driven by nostalgia, as older Donkey Kong titles, such as Donkey Kong 64, featured distinct banana-yellow cartridges, which Gardner showcased as their inspiration.

While many might cringe at the mere thought, the ensuing mishap is certainly worth witnessing.

Gardner proceeded to crudely pry open the crimson-red Switch 2 cartridge. After extracting the game`s circuit board, they spray-painted both halves of the casing yellow. Upon reassembling and attempting to insert the newly painted cartridge, it became lodged halfway into the console`s slot, refusing to go further.

A prophetic comment on the initial video warned that the paint might melt and adhere to the system when heated – a concern that would tragically prove accurate within just 24 hours.

The situation worsened as Gardner, in a follow-up video, revealed they had forcefully pushed the resistant cartridge further into the console, where it became permanently stuck. Attempts to extract it with pliers only resulted in chipped paint and a broken cartridge. Amusingly, Gardner then appealed for help, asking the internet for solutions to remove the game from their system, stating, “I`m chilling because I`m going to play the game for a while but I`d love your suggestions.”

Unsurprisingly, Gardner`s ill-fated endeavor to obtain a yellow Bananza cartridge quickly went viral. While some commenters offered practical advice, like suggesting a 3D-printed case and reprinting the game`s art, many others simply found humor in Gardner`s misfortune and dedication.

Among the most common reactions were mocking comments, such as “It`s NOT THAT SERIOUS” accompanied by a crying emoji, and witty remarks like “Guy buys a Switch 2 with Donkey Kong built in!!!” One particularly brutal comment pointed out, “Is now a bad time to mention it isn`t even the right shade of yellow?” Ouch.

The clear lesson here is to seek advice online before embarking on DIY projects involving expensive gaming consoles, to avoid costly damage. One can only hope Gardner truly enjoys Donkey Kong Bananza, as it appears to be the only game their Switch 2 will be playing for the foreseeable future.
