Understanding Co-op and Save Features in Little Nightmares III

Since its unsettling debut in 2017, the Little Nightmares franchise has captivated players with its unique blend of eerie creatures, perilous exploration, and melancholic storytelling. Little Nightmares III continues this trend, introducing a significant new element: online co-operative play. While this addition allows players to brave its nightmarish world with a friend, there are specific limitations regarding cross-platform compatibility and progression that players should be aware of.

Cross-Platform Play in Little Nightmares III

For those hoping to team up with friends across different gaming ecosystems, Little Nightmares III does not support full cross-platform play. This means, for example, that PlayStation players cannot directly connect with Xbox or PC players. However, the game does feature cross-play capabilities within different generations of the same console family. This functionality operates as follows:

  • Players on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 can play together.
  • Xbox One users can join forces with those on Xbox Series X.
  • Nintendo Switch players can connect with Nintendo Switch 2 (when applicable) players.
  • PC players are limited to playing exclusively with other PC players.

This ensures that you can still embark on spooky adventures with friends who own an older or newer console within the same brand, even if true cross-platform functionality is absent.

The Friend`s Pass Feature

A notable inclusion in Little Nightmares III is the Friend`s Pass. This feature allows two players to experience the online co-op mode with only a single copy of the game, akin to popular titles like *It Takes Two*. One player purchases the game, and their companion can then download a free access version to join the cooperative journey. However, it`s crucial to understand that a save file initiated with a Friend`s Pass partner is specifically linked to that co-op session. To play the game in single-player mode, or with a different friend, you would need to start a separate save file.

Cross-Progression Support

Regrettably, Little Nightmares III does not offer cross-progression features. This implies that your game progress and save data are exclusively tied to the platform on which you initially play. You will not be able to transfer your saves between different platforms. For instance, progress made on a PlayStation console cannot be continued on an Xbox or PC.

Little Nightmares III is set to release on October 10 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
