Twisted Metal Stars Anthony Mackie and Samoa Joe Share Their Gaming Passions

Anthony Mackie, widely recognized for his roles in the Twisted Metal series and as Captain America, holds a clear preference for classic video games over modern releases. During a recent visit to the Twisted Metal set in Toronto, Mackie shared with GameSpot that he doesn`t particularly enjoy contemporary “running and gunning” style games. Instead, his gaming choices gravitate towards beloved arcade classics like Ms. Pac-Man and The Simpsons Arcade Game.

In fact, Mackie revealed that he had recently acquired an original Simpsons Arcade Game machine. “I found a guy who said, `If you buy it and it breaks, I will come to your house and fix it,`” Mackie recounted. “I love old games like that. I`m an old pinball enthusiast. I genuinely enjoy old-school Atari and Nintendo games. I can`t get into the new stuff. I`m 45. I`m not that angry.”

Twisted Metal is the Peacock and Sony Pictures television adaptation of Sony`s popular game series. Samoa Joe, who plays Sweet Tooth in the show, confirmed he has played all the Twisted Metal games. He cited 2001`s Twisted Metal Black as his favorite due to its “dark” and “cool” atmosphere, in addition to its compelling music.

Samoa Joe also mentioned that he continues to play video games regularly. In a relatable comment for many gamers, he admitted his Steam library is “way too big” and he`s nowhere near tackling his extensive backlog of unplayed titles. “Yeah, it`s gross,” he remarked, humorously adding that a major publisher had even provided him with a code to access all their games on Steam, quipping, “I`ll get around to playing Fire Engine Simulator 4000 at some point.”

Twisted Metal Season 2 is scheduled to premiere on July 31 on Peacock.
