Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me Set for 4K UHD Blu-ray Release

Enthusiasts of the “Twin Peaks” series can anticipate the release of the prequel film, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me, on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray. The Criterion Collection`s critically acclaimed restoration of David Lynch`s 1992 cinematic work, initially launched on Blu-ray and DVD in 2017, was based on a 4K digital master approved by Lynch himself. After an eight-year wait, this restoration will finally be available in full 4K UHD resolution. The 4K UHD Blu-ray of Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me is scheduled for release on October 7th.

Many devoted “Twin Peaks” followers might have recently acquired a box set that includes Fire Walk With Me or the standard Blu-ray edition from Criterion, which is currently discounted. Earlier this year, Paramount re-released the highly sought-after Twin Peaks: From Z to A Blu-ray collection. This comprehensive 21-disc set features all three seasons of the television series, the Fire Walk With Me prequel film (in 1080p), and a wealth of supplementary material. While this set includes 4K versions of the “Twin Peaks” pilot and Season 3, Episode 8, the Fire Walk With Me film within this particular collection remains in standard Blu-ray format.

Overview of Twin Peaks Home Video Releases

For fans looking to complete their collection, several editions of Twin Peaks are available:

  • Twin Peaks: From Z to A: The Complete Series (Blu-ray): This comprehensive set includes all 30 episodes of the original two seasons, the 18 episodes of the 2017 revival, and the 1992 prequel film Fire Walk With Me. It boasts over 20 hours of bonus content, including 4K versions of the original series Pilot episode and Twin Peaks: A Limited Event Series Episode 8. Special features include “The Missing Pieces” (90 minutes of deleted scenes), “Behind The Curtain” making-of footage, full-length Roadhouse Bar music performances, and various interviews. The current reprint utilizes a plastic case, diverging from the original`s premium fold-out box.
  • Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me (The Criterion Collection):
    • 4K Blu-ray: The upcoming release on October 7, featuring the film in 4K UHD. It includes the 4K digital restoration supervised by David Lynch, DTS TrueHD 7.1 Master Audio, DTS 2.0 Master Audio, and extensive special features such as “The Missing Pieces” (90 minutes of deleted/alternate scenes), actor interviews, composer interviews, trailers, English subtitles, and excerpts from the “Lynch on Lynch” book. It also comes with an exclusive booklet of essays.
    • Standard Blu-ray: A 1080p version of the Criterion restoration, often available at a reduced price, containing the same on-disc content as the 4K version, but without the 4K resolution.
    • DVD: A standard definition release.
  • Twin Peaks: The Television Collection (Blu-ray/DVD): Released in 2019, this 16-disc (Blu-ray) or 17-disc (DVD) collection includes the original 30-episode run and the 18-part Limited Event Series. It offers a 1080p resolution for the TV series but does not include the Fire Walk With Me prequel film or some of the more extensive special features found in the From Z to A set. This edition is noted for its appealing box art and packaging compared to the newer From Z to A reprint.
  • Twin Peaks: A Limited Event Series (Blu-ray/DVD): This standalone release for the 18-episode third season (also known as “The Return” or “Season 3”) was reprinted in February. It includes all episodes of the Showtime revival, alongside various featurettes, a behind-the-scenes photo gallery, and a video from the Comic-Con panel for Season 3. This is primarily for those who only wish to own the third season separately, as its content is included in larger box sets like From Z to A and The Television Collection.
