Tony Hawk Briefly Recreates Iconic Underground Intro, Fuels Remaster Discussions

Skateboarding icon Tony Hawk recently delighted fans by unveiling a brief, unexpected recreation of the opening sequence from the classic game Tony Hawk`s Underground. Shared across social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok, the clip features Hawk himself stepping into the shoes of the game`s customizable protagonist, reliving the iconic confrontation with antagonist Eric Sparrow.

Hawk explained that this lighthearted tribute was his way of spreading some joy and celebrating National Video Games Day. Importantly, the video`s title included the disclaimer “not a THUG promo,” tempering any immediate fan expectations for an imminent remaster of the beloved 2003 title.

Despite the wave of nostalgia it generated, the video is not intended as a teaser for a future remake. Hawk has openly expressed his desire to see *Tony Hawk`s Underground* remastered, but he acknowledges that the ultimate decision rests with the publishers, not with him.

Nonetheless, the skateboarding legend remains committed to advocating for the game`s revitalization. He hopes the critical and commercial success of Tony Hawk`s Pro Skater 1 + 2 will persuade Microsoft and Activision to explore future possibilities for the franchise, including a potential remaster of *Underground*.

Beyond Hawk`s personal tributes, the current year has been notably exciting for skateboarding enthusiasts. Not only have classic *Tony Hawk* titles seen a resurgence on modern platforms, but EA`s highly anticipated Skate revival is also nearing its early access launch. Scheduled for September 16, this free-to-play live-service game for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox will introduce a revamped Flick-it control system and an expansive urban environment for players to master.
