A new massive board game set in The Witcher universe has been announced, which will thoroughly explore one of the lore`s pivotal events: the Pogrom at Kaer Morhen. This project, three years in the making, is distinct from “The Witcher 4.”
Named “The Witcher: Legacy,” this board game by Go On Board serves as a sequel to “The Witcher: Old World.” It will deeply focus on the tragic destruction of the School of the Wolf, where Geralt was trained as a Witcher. This incident marks a crucial historical point in The Witcher`s literary and gaming worlds, an event where an enraged peasant mob assaulted Kaer Morhen, leading to the demise of almost everyone inside and nearly annihilating the last active Witcher school.
Narrative will be a core element of “The Witcher: Legacy.” Go On Board stated on its Gamefound page that it`s collaborating closely with CD Projekt Red on both the game`s mechanics and its storyline.
“The narratives within the script books will transport you to events not yet fully delved into in the games or books,” Go On Board explained. “We prefer not to reveal the entire plot – we believe you`ll relish discovering it independently – but we can confirm that the Pogrom is its central theme.”
Players will assume the roles of a few Kaer Morhen survivors embarking on a quest to identify those responsible for the Pogrom and “avenge their fallen comrades.” Go On Board described the story as a branching, scenario-driven narrative where player decisions will genuinely impact “the Continent`s history.”
While “The Witcher: Legacy” might superficially resemble “The Witcher: Old World,” Go On Board emphasized that it offers a distinct experience. Full details on its mechanics are yet to be disclosed, but the company noted that “its campaign-based structure will allow for deep immersion into the story, while numerous legacy-style mechanics underscore your role in shaping it – your choices will truly matter.”
“The Witcher: Legacy” currently lacks a release date, but Go On Board plans to share more information in the coming months.
Regarding “The Witcher 4,” CD Projekt Red recently showcased an Unreal Engine 5 tech demo, providing fans with a glimpse of the next installment in the RPG series. CD Projekt Red has also indicated that “The Witcher 4” will avoid burdensome fetch quests and expressed hopes that fans will “fully embrace” Ciri as the game`s protagonist.
