Guilty Gear Strive has been the flagship title for Arc System Works` long-running fighting game series since its launch in 2021, consistently receiving new downloadable characters across four seasons. The game`s notable absence from the recent Arc System Works Showcase event may now be understood, thanks to a new report suggesting the next main Guilty Gear title has been cancelled.
According to anonymous sources cited by Insider Gaming, the follow-up game to Guilty Gear Strive has been internally cancelled by Arc System Works. The cancellation reportedly occurred “within the last couple of weeks.” While the project is said to be “back to the drawing board,” the Insider Gaming article clarifies that the game is not completely dead.
This report follows recent comments indicating Arc System Works still has substantial plans for the franchise. Speaking with Dexerto at Anime Expo, series producer Ken Miyauchi stated that contrary to assumptions that Strive might end updates after Season 4, “that`s actually not true,” adding that the team is “preparing something big and exciting that people probably won`t expect.”
Although the immediate future of a new primary Guilty Gear game is uncertain, Arc System Works continues to be active with other projects under development and publishing. The recent PlayStation State of Play presentation concluded with the announcement of Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, a 4v4 fighting game featuring Marvel characters. The Arc System Works Showcase itself unveiled several upcoming titles, including a new Bubble Bobble game.
Guilty Gear Strive is currently available across multiple platforms: Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
