The 2005 live-action film adaptation of Aeon Flux, starring Charlize Theron, is set to receive a 4K Blu-ray Steelbook edition for its 20th anniversary. While not universally acclaimed to the same degree as the groundbreaking 90s animated series that helped define MTV`s identity beyond music videos, the film remains a notable sci-fi entry. This special edition is slated for release on October 7.
The 20th Anniversary Steelbook Edition will showcase the film`s original theatrical poster art. While specific special features are yet to be confirmed, it is anticipated to include much of the bonus content from previous DVD and Blu-ray releases.
The film is set in a dystopian distant future, centuries after a devastating virus wiped out 99% of humanity. The remaining survivors reside in the fortified city of Bregna, overseen by a scientific council led by Trevor Goodchild. The story follows Aeon Flux, a skilled telepathic warrior, as she is tasked by a clandestine group to assassinate Goodchild. Her mission soon unravels into a complex conspiracy that exposes the hidden realities of Bregna City.
Aeon Flux: The Complete Animated Collection
Acknowledging that the live-action adaptation often receives less acclaim than its animated predecessor, fans interested in the original can explore “Aeon Flux: The Complete Animated Series Collection Director`s Cut” on DVD. This collection features all episodes, complemented by bonus content such as commentary from series creator Peter Chung, featurettes, production art, and various television shorts.
Beyond Aeon Flux, numerous other films from various decades are scheduled for special edition 4K Blu-ray releases this year. This includes 2000s horror favorites like The Devil`s Rejects, 90s comic book adaptations such as The Mask and Spawn, and timeless musicals like The Rocky Horror Picture Show and The Sound of Music.
