Sydney Chandler on the “Terrifying” Task of Following Sigourney Weaver in Alien: Earth

The highly anticipated FX series “Alien: Earth,” much like the iconic films that precede it, places a strong and multifaceted woman at the core of its narrative. Sydney Chandler, known for her role in “Don`t Worry Darling,” takes on the character of Wendy. She faces the significant challenge of living up to the legendary performances of Sigourney Weaver, who starred in four “Alien” movies and is widely celebrated as one of horror`s most formidable “Final Girls.” This task mirrors that of Cailee Spaeny, who undertook a similar responsibility as the lead in “Alien: Romulus” last year.

When asked about the immense pressure of this role, Chandler candidly admitted, “Not great.”

“I try not to think about it too much. I am [thinking about it], and it`s terrifying,” Chandler confessed. She elaborated on her mindset: “I`ve come to view `Alien` as one of my absolute favorite movies. It stands alone as a timeless classic that will undoubtedly endure. My hope is that Noah Hawley, the showrunner, has, much like he did with `Fargo,` managed to capture the essence of the original film to create something entirely new and original, yet still honoring its core spirit.”

In the lead role of Wendy, Chandler has big shoes to fill for the Alien series.
In her leading role as Wendy, Chandler faces a considerable challenge within the “Alien” franchise.

One might wonder if meeting Weaver herself could help alleviate some of Chandler`s apprehension. When questioned if such an encounter had already taken place, Chandler seemed even more startled.

“No, I haven`t,” Chandler exclaimed. “Oh my gosh; I would die!”

“Alien: Earth,” helmed by showrunner Noah Hawley (known for “Fargo” and “Legion”), is set to premiere on FX and Hulu on August 12th. Further details about the series, including its place within the broader “Alien” timeline, are expected to be revealed.
