Preorders have officially opened for the Super Mario Galaxy collection on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 consoles at major retailers. This eagerly awaited bundle, featuring both Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2, is set to launch on October 2. It will be available for $70 in both digital and physical formats. Nintendo made the announcement regarding these enhanced versions of the beloved Wii titles during their recent Nintendo Direct presentation.
While the original Super Mario Galaxy was previously part of the Super Mario 3D All-Stars Collection, that compilation has been out of print for several years and is no longer available on the eShop. This new release marks the first time that Super Mario Galaxy 2 will be officially playable on Nintendo`s modern hardware.
Purchasing this collection offers a $10 saving compared to buying each game individually for $40 via the eShop. Furthermore, Nintendo is providing a complimentary performance upgrade for Switch 2 users. This update will be accessible from launch day for anyone who acquires either the physical or digital version of Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2.
When played in docked mode, the games will render in 1080p resolution on the original Switch and a stunning 4K on Switch 2. Both titles will support traditional button and stick controls, alongside motion controls, catering to players who wish to replicate the original Wii experience. Following the trend of other contemporary Mario games, an “Assist Mode” has been incorporated to make these platformers more accessible for newcomers and younger players.
In addition to celebrating Super Mario`s 40th Anniversary, this collection aims to introduce these classic games to a new generation of players before “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” premieres next April. Nintendo is also planning to release two new Amiibo figures, showcasing Mario, Rosalina, and Luma. These Amiibo figures will not be available concurrently with the game collection`s launch. Instead, Nintendo has scheduled their release to coincide with the movie`s theatrical debut. Both Super Mario Galaxy Amiibo are expected to hit store shelves on April 2, 2026. While exact pricing has not been confirmed, the figures are anticipated to retail for approximately $30 each.
