Launched in 2009, Sucker Punch`s Infamous offered players a distinctive superpower experience beyond typical comic-book adventures. No new installments have appeared since 2014`s Infamous: Second Son. Nevertheless, Nate Fox, director of all three franchise titles, expresses a strong desire to revisit the series. This isn`t feasible soon, as Sucker Punch is currently fully committed to developing Ghost of Yotei, the sequel to Ghost of Tsushima.
Fox told Game Informer that he “would absolutely love to work on more Infamous” and “would love to see a trilogy rerelease.” However, Sucker Punch operates on a `one game at a time` principle, and their current sole focus is finishing Ghost of Yotei.
Nate Fox and Jason Connell co-directed Ghost of Tsushima and Ghost of Yotei, which has kept the studio fully occupied for years. Of the three Infamous titles, only Second Son is available on PS4; the first two remain PS3 exclusives, making them prime candidates for modern remasters should the franchise ever be revived.
In a 2022 blog post, Sucker Punch stated they had no immediate plans to revisit Infamous or their other beloved franchise, Sly Cooper. Despite this, Ghost of Tsushima included Easter eggs referencing both of Sucker Punch`s earlier game series.
Back in 2015, when Sony was questioned about Infamous`s future, PlayStation boss Scott Rohde asserted, “We`re never going to retire an IP. We`re always going to be open to [making more Infamous games].” Yet, in the nearly decade since that interview, the most recent mentions of Infamous have only surfaced as Easter eggs in Astro Bot, released in 2024.
