One of the year`s leading game releases is Hazelight Studios` co-op sci-fi/fantasy adventure, Split Fiction. This two-player game, launched in March 2025, has already sold over 4 million copies. Hazelight Studios has now announced a prestigious honor in its home country, Sweden. Split Fiction has been awarded the Excellent Swedish Design prize, making it the first video game to ever receive this recognition.
Hazelight Studios shared a photograph on its social media accounts, showing studio founder and Split Fiction director Josef Fares alongside Sweden`s Prince Carl Philip, who presented the award.
The co-op game`s plot centers on two young writers, Mio Hudson (Kaja Chan) and Zoe Foster (Elsie Bennett), who find themselves trapped within a simulation of their own stories. Mio and Zoe are compelled to collaborate as their fictional worlds begin to intertwine. Split Fiction is the successor to Hazelight Studios` other successful co-op title, It Takes Two, which sold 23 million copies.
A film adaptation of Split Fiction is currently in development. John M. Chu, known for directing “Wicked,” is a potential candidate to helm the movie, with actress Sydney Sweeney also attached to the project. “Deadpool” writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese signed on to write the screenplay in June. Fares has voiced some skepticism about whether Split Fiction will ultimately reach the big screen, but the project appears to be gaining momentum.
Split Fiction is available on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
