Sony Introduces PlayStation Family App for Enhanced Parental Control

Sony has unveiled its new mobile application, the PlayStation Family App, designed to give parents robust tools for monitoring and managing their children`s gaming experiences on PlayStation platforms.

This free application, now globally available on iOS and Android, connects to PlayStation devices within the home. It enables parents to receive real-time login notifications, set time limits for gaming sessions, and either approve or deny requests for extensions. Furthermore, the app empowers parents to restrict access to specific games for their children.

Additional features include comprehensive activity reports detailing daily and weekly play sessions, alongside the ability to establish spending limits within the PlayStation Store. Parents can also customize privacy settings and determine whether their child can utilize social features.

“We plan to continuously enhance the PlayStation Family app, evolving its functionality over time.”

The introduction of this app coincides with increasing scrutiny from lawmakers directed at the popular game Roblox, citing concerns that the platform does not adequately protect children.

It`s worth noting that Microsoft launched its Xbox Family Settings app over five years ago, offering a similar set of functionalities. Similarly, the recently released Switch 2 also boasts extensive parental control options accessible via its own dedicated application.
