Slay the Spire 2’s Early Access Launch Delayed to 2026

Fans eagerly awaiting Slay the Spire 2`s early access release will have to wait a bit longer. Developer Mega Crit recently announced via a Steam post that the highly anticipated sequel has been postponed until a “secret Thursday” in March 2026. This roguelike deckbuilder was initially projected for a 2025 launch.

Mega Crit acknowledged that this delay was unwelcome news for everyone, including themselves, but stated that the team requires additional time to ensure the game is fully prepared for its early access debut. The post clarified that there isn`t one singular dramatic cause for the postponement. Instead, a combination of personal life events affecting team members (who are all fine), an abundance of ambitious “wouldn`t it be cool if…” ideas, and the overall need for more polish to meet their quality standards contributed to the decision.

The announcement also included an FAQ section to address anticipated questions. One key query was whether the delay was influenced by the often-delayed Hollow Knight: Silksong. Mega Crit confirmed that the decision to push Slay the Spire 2`s release was made before Silksong`s launch date was revealed, humorously adding, “but on the bright side, everyone can keep busy playing Silksong during the wait!”

Furthermore, the developer reiterated that a significant factor behind the delay is the expanded content scope of Slay the Spire 2 compared to its predecessor. A new feature, “Alternate Acts,” was teased. Once unlocked, players will randomly encounter one of two distinct acts. These acts promise substantial differences in environments, enemies, events, and bosses, significantly enhancing replayability and variety between runs.

For instance, Act 1a, “Overgrowth,” depicts a ruined area teeming with unique flora and fauna. In contrast, Act 1b, “Underdocks,” describes a murky waterway linked to the Spire`s sewer system, from which mutated sea creatures and vagrants might emerge.

Regardless of the exact “secret Thursday” in March 2026, Slay the Spire 2 will be available for early access on PC via Steam.
