Silksong’s Anticipated Launch Prompts Multiple Game Delays

The long-awaited release of Hollow Knight: Silksong, now set for September 4, has generated immense anticipation among gamers worldwide. This profound excitement is significantly impacting the gaming industry, prompting at least three independent game developers to strategically reschedule their own launch dates to avoid direct competition with the highly anticipated Metroidvania title.

Developers Adjust Release Schedules

Panik Arcade, the studio behind CloverPit—a roguelike game described as the “demonic lovechild of Balatro and Buckshot Roulette”—has shifted its launch from an original September 3 to September 26. The developers clearly articulated their reasoning:

“Silksong is the most anticipated and wishlisted game on all of Steam, and we think people will love this game and play it right at launch (including us), but that also means it will overshadow all games launching close to it. So, if we stick to our original date, we would risk the launch of CloverPit a fair bit.”

The team intends to leverage this additional time to further polish CloverPit, ensuring it has the best possible chance for market success.

Similarly, the 1.0 launch of Faeland, an adventure RPG drawing inspiration from classic 8-bit titles and currently available in Steam Early Access, has been postponed from its initial September 9 release. The developers explained their difficult decision:

“We poured years of work and love into Faeland, and we want to make sure it arrives at a time when it can receive the attention and care it deserves.”

A new release date for Faeland is expected to be announced in the near future.

Aeternum Game Studios also announced a substantial delay for Aeterna Lucis, pushing its planned September release back to 2026. The studio openly highlighted the challenge of competing for visibility:

“After the announcement of Silksong, we are fully aware that our game wouldn’t have the visibility it deserves… Competing with a phenomenon of that scale would not only be unfair to our team’s effort, but also to you, the community, who expect to experience this adventure under the best possible conditions.”

Beyond Silksong`s market impact, the delay also addresses the studio`s need for specific development kits to ensure a simultaneous launch across all next-generation platforms. While Aeterna Lucis is already complete, the extended development period will be dedicated to additional polish and refinement.

Notably, Aeternum Game Studios extended their gratitude to Team Cherry, acknowledging their significant contribution to the genre:

“Instead of rivalry, what we feel is gratitude: thanks to them, the metroidvania genre is more alive than ever and, in fact, they were one of the main inspirations that led us to create Aeterna Noctis and the entire saga now in development.”

About Hollow Knight: Silksong

Silksong is the much-anticipated sequel to the critically acclaimed 2017 title Hollow Knight. Originally conceived as an expansion, developer Team Cherry later decided to develop it as a full, standalone game. The prolonged wait for significant news sometimes led to speculation about development challenges; however, Team Cherry has assured fans that Hollow Knight`s overwhelming success simply provided them the luxury of ample time to meticulously craft Silksong.

The game is currently available for hands-on demos at Gamescom, attracting considerable attention and long queues. Initial impressions, such as those from industry analyst Steve Watts, praise Silksong as a robust, meticulously designed, and visually stunning game that thoughtfully advances the aesthetic and design principles of its predecessor with meaningful updates.

This phenomenon mirrors the impact once expected from GTA 6`s initial 2025 release window, which prompted similar industry shifts before its own delay to 2026. Now, Hollow Knight: Silksong stands as a major 2025 release capable of significantly influencing other developers` launch strategies, highlighting its immense gravitational pull within the gaming landscape.
