The first volume of the Vagabond Definitive Edition manga, a highly anticipated premium release of the year, is now available on Amazon for just $31 (originally $55). This stunning 728-page hardcover, published by Viz Media in January, compiles the initial three volumes of Takehiko Inoue`s legendary series, widely considered one of the finest manga in its genre.
Volume two was released in April, and volume three on July 15. Volume 2 is currently priced at $40 (down from $55), while Volume 3 is $48 (down from $55). Pre-orders are also open for the next three installments of the Vagabond Definitive Edition project. Fans can anticipate adding a new Definitive Edition to their collection every three months.

These new oversized Vagabond editions are printed on high-quality art paper, allowing Inoue`s beautiful and brutal artwork to truly stand out. Another notable presentation aspect is the textured cover finish, a feature also seen in other Deluxe Edition manga. To date, 37 individual Vagabond volumes have been published, collected across 13 books.
Volume 4 concludes the 2025 releases on October 21. The three-month interval between releases will continue into 2026, with Volume 5 slated for January and Volume 6 for April.
Volume 1 is the lengthiest of the six Definitive Editions at 728 pages, but the next four also exceed 600 pages: Vol. 2 is 632 pages, Vol. 3 is 616 pages, Vol. 4 is 664 pages, and Vol. 5 is 624 pages. Vol. 6 is slightly shorter at 584 pages.
For those unfamiliar with Vagabond, the series follows Shinmen Takezou`s journey through 16th-century Japan. Also known as the legendary swordsman Miyamoto Musashi, the manga offers a fictionalized account of his life, based on Eiji Yoshikawa`s novel Musashi. A decades-spanning narrative, Vagabond delves into not only the battles that forged Musashi`s legend but also the more personal moments of his life as he pursues enlightenment, all rendered through breathtaking art.

Vagabond has been on hiatus for a decade; Inoue paused the project to focus on his health and pursue other works. In the years since, he has continued his basketball-themed series Real, an inspiring manga centered around wheelchair basketball that debuted in 1999. While there`s no indication Inoue will return to Vagabond in the future, the existing volumes are highly recommended for their intricate narrative and captivating visuals.
