Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has garnered enthusiastic praise from both critics and players, establishing itself as a strong contender for Game of the Year. As is often the case with a breakthrough success from a new studio, the inevitable question arises: what`s next? While developer Sandfall Interactive remains largely tight-lipped, game director Guillaume Broche confirmed in a recent interview that Expedition 33 will not be the sole entry under the Clair Obscur brand.
Speaking with YouTuber MrMattyPlays, Broche clarified: “Clair Obscur is the franchise name. Expedition 33 is one of the stories we aim to tell within this franchise. It`s still too early to announce exactly what future projects will look like or what their concepts will be, but one thing is certain: this is not the end of the Clair Obscur franchise.”
Broche`s cautious approach is understandable, given that Expedition 33 was released only in April this year. Considering the lengthy development cycles for games, and Broche`s stated desire to keep the team relatively small moving forward, details about a potential sequel are likely some time away. The game draws significant inspiration from the Final Fantasy series, which often adopts an anthology format for its releases. This raises questions about whether a future Clair Obscur title would be a direct continuation or an entirely new narrative.
If you haven`t yet experienced the game and are deciding if it`s for you, various reviews are available for further insight.
