Sam Fisher Returns to Action in Netflix’s Splinter Cell: Deathwatch Trailer

Sam Fisher, the iconic stealth operative, is finally making his long-awaited return after more than a decade since his last video game appearance. Netflix has just released an electrifying new trailer for Splinter Cell: Deathwatch, an upcoming animated series that will once again thrust Sam into a high-stakes mission. Fans can mark their calendars as the series is slated to premiere on October 14.

Voice Cast & Story Hints

While Michael Ironside famously lent his voice to Fisher in most Splinter Cell games, the animated series sees renowned actor Liev Schreiber stepping into the leading role. The trailer offers tantalizing glimpses of Sam in action, but few explicit story details are revealed beyond his signature combat prowess. One poignant moment, however, focuses on the grave of Douglas Shetland, a close friend Sam was tragically forced to eliminate during a past rogue operation. Should the animated series closely follow the game`s chronology, this narrative point would place the story events around the era of Pandora Tomorrow or Chaos Theory.

Production Team & Other Cast

The confirmed voice cast for Deathwatch includes:

  • Janet Varney as Anna `Grim` Grímsdóttir
  • Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Zinnia McKenna
  • Joel Oulette as Thunder

The series boasts a strong creative team, with Derek Kolstad, co-creator of John Wick, serving as the head writer and producer. Animation duties are handled by the talented teams at Sun Creature Studio and Fost, promising a visually engaging experience.

Other Adaptations & Game Updates

Despite this exciting animated revival, other Splinter Cell adaptations appear to be on hold. A live-action movie, which had been in development for several years, was unfortunately canceled last year. More recently, fans experienced a Splinter Cell: Firewall BBC Radio play, featuring Andonis Anthony as Fisher. Meanwhile, Ubisoft announced a Splinter Cell game remake in 2022, but a release date remains unconfirmed. In a nod to past titles, the publisher also recently added Steam achievements to Splinter Cell: Blacklist, originally released in 2013.
