Resident Evil 2 Director Hopes Hideo Kojima Creates a New P.T.-Inspired Horror Game

Even eleven years after its release, the delisted P.T., a demo for the canceled Silent Hills, remains a benchmark for what a truly great horror game could be. Among its many admirers is Hideki Kamiya, the acclaimed director behind titles like Resident Evil 2 and Devil May Cry. Kamiya publicly expressed his strong desire for Hideo Kojima to craft a new game in a similar vein. He even went so far as to humorously suggest he might take on the challenge himself if Kojima doesn`t.

In a post shared on X (translated by IGN), Kamiya stated: “If it’s impossible to resurrect P.T., Kojima should make a new game in the same style. If Kojima doesn’t do it, maybe I’ll give it a go. I hate horror though, so it wouldn’t be horror… Plus, I have no ideas.”

Kamiya has consistently praised P.T. in the past, though he has also admitted that he finds the game too terrifying to play by himself. He noted that other Japanese horror titles, such as The Exit 8, have attempted to capture the essence and longing for more P.T.-like experiences, though he personally viewed it as a “lite” version of the original.

Despite P.T. no longer being readily available to play, its profound legacy endures. Dedicated fans have managed to uncover methods to track the movements of Lisa, the demo`s malevolent spirit, further solidifying its mythical status. Its influence is so significant that the game has even been faithfully recreated by fans within Halo Infinite.

Intriguingly, one of Kojima’s forthcoming projects, titled OD, seemed to pay subtle homage to Silent Hills in an early promotional trailer. While widely believed to be an exclusive horror title for Xbox Series X|S, Kojima has yet to release concrete details about the game`s plot or core mechanics.
