Rematch Developers Prioritize Cross-Play Amidst Game’s Success

Sloclap, the studio behind the popular sports title Rematch, has reaffirmed that cross-play remains a top priority. The development team is actively refining the game and implementing highly requested features.

In a discussion with Eurogamer, Sloclap CEO Pierre Tarno revealed that cross-play, originally intended for launch, is part of a broader set of social functionalities planned for the game. These include features like spectating friends` matches and, fittingly given the game`s title, the ability to request rematches.

These additions align with what Tarno describes as Rematch`s four key development pillars: social engagement, core gameplay, competitive play, and casual accessibility.

Players learned of the missing cross-play feature just a day before the game`s release, when Sloclap publicly stated it was a “top priority for upcoming updates.”

While a specific timeline for cross-play implementation is still pending, Sloclap acknowledges the community`s strong desire for it. The team is currently focused on resolving bugs and enhancing the game`s fundamental mechanics to “add depth and granularity.”

Tarno outlined various proposed changes to core gameplay, such as adjusting tackle mechanics to better reward or penalize players based on their success, and improving goalkeeping. Looking ahead, Sloclap is also planning more substantial features like the introduction of clubs and tournaments later this year, alongside casual-friendly modes to complement Rematch`s first competitive season.

Despite these extensive plans, Tarno offered few concrete dates, indicating that the game`s development roadmap is somewhat flexible as the team prioritizes balancing and bug fixes.

Nonetheless, these ongoing adjustments haven`t hindered Rematch`s impressive success, as the game has already attracted over one million unique players.
