PS5 System Update Rolls Out Quietly

As is customary, another PlayStation 5 system update has been released, though this week’s version introduces no groundbreaking features. Sony has confirmed that Version 25.05-11.60.00 is now available for PS5 consoles, offering the standard stability improvements typical of such firmware patches.

The concise patch notes simply state: “We have improved system software performance and stability.”

The preceding system update for PS5 also brought a minor stability enhancement. However, the last truly substantial patch, Version 25.03-11.20.00, was more impactful. It introduced the `Audio Focus` feature, specifically designed to bolster accessibility by allowing players to more clearly discern subtle in-game sounds and voice chat. Additionally, that update reinstated the beloved home screen themes inspired by various PlayStation generations.

In other PlayStation news, the console’s next significant first-party title, Ghost of Yotei, took center stage during a recent State of Play livestream. The broadcast offered a wealth of new details and a generous look at gameplay from the forthcoming samurai sandbox adventure. Fans also got a glimpse of new limited-edition PS5 consoles inspired by the game.

A notable trend has also emerged this year on PS5 consoles: several of the platform’s most popular games have come not only from Sony itself but surprisingly, from its competitor, Microsoft. First-party Xbox titles are increasingly appearing on PS5 – typically after a period of timed exclusivity on PC and Xbox Series X|S. The next such title headed to Sony’s platform is Stalker 2: Heart of Chornobyl, anticipated in late 2025.
