When a video game achieves widespread popularity, it`s almost guaranteed to inspire imitations. The latest hit to encounter this phenomenon is the cooperative comedy climbing game, Peak, which has maintained significant success since its launch in June. This imitation has emerged as “Cliff,” a Roblox game that openly acknowledges its inspiration, even explicitly citing Peak within its description.
This situation did not escape the notice of Aggro Crab, one of Peak`s co-developers. They posted on X (formerly Twitter), declaring, “tbh would rather you pirate our game than play this microtransaction-riddled Roblox slop ripoff.” Landfall Games, the other developer behind Peak, simply “Cosigned” this strong sentiment.
To provide context on the microtransactions, “Cliff” offers various in-game items, such as a climbing pickaxe designed to reduce stamina usage, purchasable for 200 Robux. This amount translates to approximately $2.50 USD. In stark contrast, Peak itself is a one-time purchase costing only $8 and contains absolutely no microtransactions.
In a separate development, Peak recently received an update described by its developers as “totally normal,” which controversially introduced cannibalism into the game. Recognizing that this feature might not appeal to all players, a swift follow-up patch was released, allowing users to disable cannibalism. By default, however, it is turned on, so if you prefer not to view your in-game companions as “delicious rotisserie chicken,” you will need to navigate to your game settings to deactivate it.
