Once Upon A Katamari Rolls Out New Details and October Release Date

A brand-new installment in the beloved Katamari series, titled Once Upon A Katamari, was officially unveiled during the recent Nintendo Partner Direct event. This marks a significant return for the franchise, being the first new console game since 2011. As expected, the game once again features the King of All Cosmos causing his signature brand of interstellar mischief for the ever-patient Prince.

In this latest cosmic caper, the King`s colossal blunder leads to the accidental obliteration of Earth, its moon, and countless other celestial bodies. This catastrophic event propels The Prince on an extraordinary journey through time, traversing distinct historical and prehistoric epochs. Players will guide him through the ancient Jurassic Period, the frigid Ice Age, feudal Japan, and even Ancient Rome, among other diverse settings. To assist The Prince in his monumental task, new gameplay tools have been introduced, including a magnet to attract distant objects, a rocket for rapid propulsion, and a timer that can temporarily halt moving objects and even suspend time itself.

Players will be delighted by an expanded cast of playable characters, with a grand total of 69 cousins to choose from, including The Prince himself. This eclectic roster boasts a variety of whimsical designs, from a character resembling two people in a horse costume and a sentient cactus, to one that is simply a mushroom. Both The Prince and his eccentric cousins are fully customizable. Furthermore, a new multiplayer experience called KatamariBall has been added, allowing up to four players to roll together online.

The game places a strong emphasis on its musical score, featuring tracks from a diverse range of artists. Notably, Chelmico, the duo behind the opening theme for *Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken*, contributes a song titled “Katamari Time!”, which can be heard in the game`s trailer. Daoko, celebrated for her vocals on “Me!Me!Me!”, is also among the featured musical talents.

Fans won`t have to wait long to get their hands on this new adventure, as Once Upon A Katamari is slated for release on October 24, 2025. The game is planned for a wide release across multiple platforms, including Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
