Square Enix has announced the upcoming release of Octopath Traveler 0, a new entry in the Octopath series, set to launch on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and PC on December 4. This RPG reimagines the narrative and gameplay elements from the mobile title, Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent, transforming them into a standalone, offline single-player experience. Preorders are now open, with multiple editions available: a $50 Standard Edition, a $70 Digital Deluxe Edition, and a grand $230 Collector`s Edition, exclusively offered through Square Enix`s online store. All three versions come with early purchase bonuses.
Octopath Traveler 0 Preorder Bonuses

Preordering any version of Octopath Traveler 0 grants you the “Travel Provisions Pack,” which includes in-game items and skills designed to give you a slight advantage during the early stages of the game. The full contents of the pack are:
- 5x Healing Grape (M)
- 5x Inspiriting Plum (M)
- 5x Revitalizing Jam
- Icewind Mastery skill
The Standard Edition of Octopath Traveler 0 includes the full base game, plus the “Travel Provisions Pack” when preordered. It`s important to note that the physical version for Switch 2 is distributed as a “Game-Key Card,” meaning the cartridge itself does not contain game data; it acts purely as physical DRM for downloading the digital version. For other platforms (PS5, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch), physical media includes the complete game data. Despite Switch 2`s backward compatibility with Switch 1 games, Square Enix is not offering an upgrade path from the Switch 1 version to the Switch 2 version. Therefore, to experience improved performance and graphics on Switch 2, players must purchase the Game-Key Card or digital versions.

Octopath Traveler 0 is the third game in the Octopath Traveler series, and as the “0” in its title suggests, its events precede the in-universe chronology of the series. Players familiar with the first two installments will recognize Octopath Traveler 0`s signature HD-2D graphics style and turn-based combat system, which now expands the party size to eight characters, up from four in previous games. Octopath Traveler 0 also introduces a new town-building system, where players will rebuild their home village after its destruction in the story`s opening.
If you haven`t played the first two games in the series, physical copies of Octopath Traveler for Switch are available for $50, while Octopath Traveler II is offered on Switch, PS5, and PS4. The PS4 version includes a free upgrade to the PS5 version. Meanwhile, fans eager to delve deeper into the series` charming fantasy world can explore “The Art of Octopath Traveler” art book, featuring illustrations from across the entire series, including sections on the mobile game Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent, offering a sneak peek into the characters and lore of Octopath Traveler 0. Dark Horse also published a strategy guide for the first game, “Octopath Traveler: The Complete Guide,” which provides a full walkthrough, detailed explanations of various game mechanics, and a wealth of art and lore.

More Square Enix RPG Offers and Preorders
Octopath Traveler 0 isn`t the only major new game coming soon from Square Enix. It was also unveiled alongside a new HD-2D action RPG, Elliot: The Millennium Tales, during the Nintendo Partner Showcase on July 31. While preorders for Elliot are not yet available, players can download a demo to get a taste of the new adventure.
Square Enix is also rolling out several remakes and remasters in the coming weeks, starting with Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles, a complete overhaul of the original PS1 game, launching for Switch, Switch 2, PS5, Xbox, and PC (via Steam) on September 30. A few weeks later, fans of classic turn-based RPGs can look forward to the Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake, which will be released on PC and consoles. Preorders for all these titles are currently open. It`s worth noting that the Switch 2 editions for all these games are once again “Game-Key Card” releases. However, unlike Octopath Traveler 0, you will be able to upgrade your Switch 1 versions of Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles, though this will not be possible for Dragon Quest I & II HD-2D Remake.
Square Enix RPGs with Switch 2 Upgrades
In addition to these upcoming titles, Switch 2 Edition upgrades are now available for two other recently released remakes of classic Square Enix games: a free patch for Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake, and a $10 upgrade pack for Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven.
