The Nintendo Switch 2 has undoubtedly made an exceptionally strong debut. According to Circana`s reports, the hybrid gaming system propelled total US hardware expenditure in June to an astounding $978 million. This figure dramatically surpassed the prior record of $608 million, which had been set 17 years ago in June 2008.
Mat Piscatella, Circana`s executive director, further confirmed that the Switch 2 achieved the highest first-month system sales ever in the United States. Nintendo`s latest console, launched on June 5, reportedly sold an impressive 1.6 million units last month. This comfortably outdid the previous record held by the PS4, which debuted in November 2013 with 1.1 million units sold. It`s particularly significant that the Switch 2 accomplished this milestone outside of the typically high-spending holiday season, which usually occurs in November and December for the video game industry.
Nintendo has yet to release updated official hardware sales data since its initial announcement that the Switch 2 sold over 3.5 million units within its first four days globally. Meanwhile, earlier this week, Famitsu reported that the Switch 2 also broke the first-month hardware sales record in Japan. The system reportedly sold over 1.5 million units in Japan, shattering the Game Boy Advance`s long-standing record, which had been in place for nearly a quarter-century.
Looking forward, Nintendo clearly intends to capitalize on this robust momentum. The company recently revealed a $500 Switch 2 holiday bundle that will include the highly anticipated game, Pokemon Legends: Z-A.
