Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con Controllers Now $90 at Target

Despite recent announcements of price adjustments for certain Nintendo Switch hardware and accessories, a two-pack of Nintendo Switch 2 Joy-Con controllers is currently available at a discounted price of $90 at Target. This unexpected deal comes even as many products are seeing price hikes ahead of their official implementation date of August 3.

Target`s online listing for the Joy-Con 2 sets had briefly increased from $95 to $100 on August 1, aligning with the impending changes. However, this price change was quickly reversed. As of now, the Joy-Con 2 Controllers can be purchased for $90, with the $5 discount (potentially $10 once the $100 MSRP takes effect) applying only after adding the item to your cart.

Broader Price Adjustments

While the Joy-Con 2-pack sees a temporary reprieve, other controllers and accessories are subject to Nintendo`s new pricing structure:

  • Original Switch and Switch OLED Joy-Con Controllers: Prices are increasing from $80 to $90.
  • Original Switch Pro Controller: Its price is climbing from $70 to $80.

Notably, some Joy-Con-related accessories appear to be exempt from these increases, including the Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip ($40), Joy-Con 2 Racing Wheels ($25), and Joy-Con 2 wrist straps ($14). There`s also no current indication that the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller will increase from its $85 price.

Introducing the Joy-Con 2 Controllers

The new Joy-Con 2 Controllers, while slightly larger than their predecessors, maintain a familiar design. They retain core features such as motion controls, an improved HD Rumble, and NFC support for Amiibo. However, they also introduce some exciting new functionalities:

  • Mouse Mode: An innovative feature allowing a single Joy-Con 2 to function like a computer mouse. While not universally supported, this mode will be available in launch titles like Civilization VII and the highly anticipated Metroid Prime 4: Beyond (set for 2025).
  • GameChat Button: The right Joy-Con 2 Controller now includes a dedicated “C” button to access the Switch 2`s GameChat feature.
  • Quality-of-Life Enhancements: Expect larger bumpers for improved single Joy-Con control and a new magnetic attachment system that secures the controllers to the console without the traditional mechanical click.

A standard Joy-Con 2 set includes both the left and right controllers, along with a pair of wrist straps that are also utilized for the new mouse mode.

Individual Joy-Con 2 controllers are also available for $55 each. The left Joy-Con 2 comes with a light blue wrist strap, while the right Joy-Con 2, featuring the new GameChat button, includes a light red wrist strap. For those seeking extended battery life and additional customization, the Joy-Con 2 Charging Grip (priced at $40) is equipped with two remappable back buttons.
