Nintendo Switch 2 Achieves Historic First-Month Sales in Japan

A New Sales Champion Emerges in Japan

The Nintendo Switch 2 has reportedly made history in Japan, surpassing the first-month hardware sales record by selling over 1.5 million units. This impressive debut outshines previous console launches, including iconic systems like the Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS, and PlayStation 2.

Reports from Famitsu, relayed by Yomiuri and VGC, indicate that Nintendo`s latest hybrid console achieved an official total of 1,538,260 units sold in Japan. Famitsu, a reputable source for sales data since 1996, gathers its information from thousands of retail outlets across the country.

For nearly 25 years, the Game Boy Advance held the first-month sales crown in Japan, having sold 1,367,433 units in 2001. The Switch 2`s performance now surpasses this long-standing record. Other consoles that experienced strong initial sales in Japan include the Nintendo DS, which sold over 1.2 million units, and the PlayStation 2, with more than 1.1 million units.

Globally, the Switch 2 launched on June 5th and quickly established itself as Nintendo`s fastest-selling console, moving over 3.5 million units within its first four days. However, Nintendo has yet to release any updated global sales figures since this initial announcement.
