Nintendo Is Ending The Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers Program

Nintendo has announced it will permanently end the Nintendo Switch Game Voucher program on January 30, 2026. This decision follows the recent news about the Nintendo Switch 2 and suggests a potential shift in the company`s strategy as the new console emerges.

This popular program offered Switch owners a way to buy two digital game vouchers for $100, which could then be redeemed for eligible Nintendo Switch titles. This provided a $20 saving compared to buying two standard $60 games separately. Many highly anticipated and popular first-party Nintendo titles, such as Super Mario Odyssey, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, were included in this offer, making it a favored option for many players.

An official statement on Nintendo`s support website confirmed the program`s discontinuation, clearly stating that purchases will cease precisely at 11:59 PM Pacific Time on January 30, 2026. However, the announcement reassured users that any vouchers bought before this final purchase deadline will remain valid and redeemable for a full 12 months from their original purchase date.

The statement explicitly clarified the validity period: “There will be no change to the way your game vouchers expire. Game vouchers remain valid for 12 months from purchase.” It provided an example: “For example, if a set of Nintendo Switch Game Vouchers is purchased on January 30, 2026, each Nintendo Switch Game Voucher remains valid until January 30, 2027.”

Nintendo had previously clarified that these specific vouchers would not be compatible with games released for the forthcoming Nintendo Switch 2 console. As of the current announcement, the company has not revealed any plans for a similar voucher or discount program specifically designed for the new hardware platform.
