Nintendo Apologizes for Switch 2 Supply Challenges Amidst Soaring Demand

Nintendo acknowledges the ongoing difficulty in finding a Switch 2 console in numerous countries and is committed to resolving this supply issue. The topic was addressed during the company`s financial results briefing for the first quarter of fiscal year 2026 (April-June 2025).

With over 6 million units sold in a mere seven weeks, the Switch 2 has seen incredible demand. Nintendo stated that current demand for the console significantly outstrips supply across many regions, expressing regret for the inconvenience this causes consumers. The company plans to enhance its production and supply chains to mitigate the problem.

Earlier in May, before the console`s release, Nintendo of America president Doug Bowser had anticipated that Switch 2 supply would meet U.S. demand. This perspective aligned with Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa`s view that pricing would be a more significant factor in initial hardware sales. Notably, the Xbox Series X and PS5 also faced supply challenges for nearly a year post-launch, though their release coincided with the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Despite initial predictions, the Switch 2 rapidly became the fastest-selling home console in history, selling 3.5 million units within its first four days. Its launch also contributed to breaking a nearly two-decade-old U.S. hardware sales record for June.

Conversely, the original Nintendo Switch console line is set to experience price increases in the U.S. soon. While the Switch 2 console and Nintendo Switch Online memberships are not currently impacted by these changes, certain Switch 2 accessories will indeed see a price hike.
